Chicago Event Picks for New Year’s Eve 2020

Once Christmas has come and gone, the next happening to turn one’s focus to is New Year’s Eve, that special night that the world moves into the year 2020 (at least according to our old friend, the Gregorian calendar). If it were up to us, we would refer to this night as New Year’s Eve 2019, since it will still technically be 2019 during the specified “eve.”

But hey, what do we know? Everyone else seems to be referring to this New Year’s Eve that’s taking place in 2019 as “New Year’s Eve 2020.” So be it.

As you can probably imagine, there’s a lot going on for New Year’s Eve “2020” in Chicago. We compiled a few of our favorites below. Enjoy.

Blue Man Group New Year’s Eve Celebration

  • Where? 3133 N. Halsted Street, Chicago IL
  • When? Tuesday, Dec. 31st, 2019 at 1 pm, 4 pm, 7 pm, and 10 pm

What better way to celebrate our home planet’s latest orbit around the sun than by seeing a bunch of blue-painted men do whatever it is they do at these shows? Performances will take place at both 1 and 4 o’clock for families with young kids, where they’ll do pretend countdowns. There will also be activities like pre-show face painting, to allow the kids to experience a little bit of blueness.

The 7 pm performance gets a celebratory champagne toast and party hats. The 10 pm performance will have the most dramatic celebration as 2020 truly hits Chicago.

New Year’s Eve 2020 at SPIN Chicago

  • Where? SPIN, 344 N. State Street, Chicago IL
  • When? Tuesday, Dec. 31st, 2019 at 8:30 pm until 2 am

If you’re not into the blue body paint thing, perhaps you’d enjoy a subterranean ping-pong lounge? In addition to playing the esteemed sport deep underground, you’ll be able to enjoy an environment loaded with music, art, and culture. And a dance floor.

There will be 4.5 hours of premium drinks, upscale appetizer stations, a special aerialist performance, plenty of photo ops, and a champagne toast at midnight. Along with, of course, complimentary ping-pong. For the really serious ping-pong fans, there’s a VIP package available.

NYECHI 2020 – New Year’s Eve Celebration

  • Where? Lyric Opera of Chicago, 20 N. Upper Wacker Drive, Chicago IL
  • When? Tuesday, Dec. 31st, 2019 from 9 pm until 2 am

If blue isn’t your color and you don’t like ping-pong (this is starting to sound like a Queen lyric), our final suggestion is to join over 900 people as they get down Roaring 20s-style at the historic Chicago Lyric Opera House. Attendees will enjoy unlimited cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, entertainment, a live DJ, “Roaring 20’s style” dancers, and more. At midnight, there will of course be a champagne toast.

Note that this is an event for those 21 and older. Ticket prices range from $60 to $3,500.
